Local Flavor: Southfin Southern Poke

Posted on June 23 2017

Hello everyone and welcome to my second installment of the "Local Flavor" series! Today I would like to highlight Southfin Southern Poke. Located by the Bulldog and Marylee Donuts on Perkins road, Southfin was opened in March by Stephen Hightower, the owner of the renowned City Pork Brasserie and Bar.

Until a few months ago, I had no idea what poke was (essentially a bowl of delicious sushi) or how to pronounce it (po-kay). But now, I know exactly what it is: out of this world.

When I entered the restaurant, I made it a step and a half into the building before I was greeted by a smiling young man who helped walk me through the whole process. You can choose a bowl from the menu or create your own, Subway style.

Obviously I won't go through the entire menu, no matter how much I may want to, but you essentially start with a base of rice/greens/or noodles, add your protein, choose your toppings, sauce, and garnishes, and then chow down on the masterpiece you've created! I was unsure of some of the sauces and toppings having never tried them, but the culinary team behind the counter was so kind and patient with me, making what had the possibility to be a stressful ordering experience into a truly fun and pleasant adventure!

I cannot wait to see just how successful Southfin becomes and to continue coming back to eat this amazing food. I hope you all get a chance to stop in and experience it!

Until next time,
