Happy National Chocolate Chip Day!

Whether you like to cook with them, put them in trail mix, or just eat them out of the bag, almost anyone can find a way to take part in National Chocolate Chip Day. I personally love a good old plain Jane chocolate chip cookie (which is code for eating raw cookie dough before it makes it into the oven). I followed this simple oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe with a few minor changes and this is what they were supposed to look like:

I'll spare you all from a picture of what actually happened...But all that matters is that they tasted so good. Here is the original recipe:

1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla 
cups oats
1 1/2 cups all-purpose or unbleached flour
teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
cup semisweet chocolate chips (6 oz) (I used milk chocolate)
cup chopped nuts, if desired (you will never catch me putting nuts in a perfectly good dessert)
  • 1: Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, stir brown sugar and butter until blended. Stir in vanilla and egg until light and fluffy. Stir in oats, flour, baking soda and salt; stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
  • 2: Onto ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.
  • 3: Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
