Happy National Chocolate Chip Day!
Posted on May 15 2017
Whether you like to cook with them, put them in trail mix, or just eat them out of the bag, almost anyone can find a way to take part in National Chocolate Chip Day. I personally love a good old plain Jane chocolate chip cookie (which is code for eating raw cookie dough before it makes it into the oven). I followed this simple oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe with a few minor changes and this is what they were supposed to look like:
I'll spare you all from a picture of what actually happened...But all that matters is that they tasted so good. Here is the original recipe:
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
- 2 cups oats
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose or unbleached flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (6 oz) (I used milk chocolate)
- 1 cup chopped nuts, if desired (you will never catch me putting nuts in a perfectly good dessert)
1: Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, stir brown sugar and butter until blended. Stir in vanilla and egg until light and fluffy. Stir in oats, flour, baking soda and salt; stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
2: Onto ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.
3: Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
